The signs of EDS are simple to see, but can be harder to quantify.
Not Just a Day When You’re Tired
In your life, there may be many days when you’re simply too sleepy to function. This might make you less effective at work or in life, but this doesn’t mean that you have excessive daytime sleepiness. While you might have a bout of this from time to time, there are other signs of EDS which might warrant more than just a good night’s sleep.
Common signs of Excessive Daytime Sleepiness include:
- Strong urges to sleep at inopportune times.
- General lack of energy.
- Frequent urges to nap.
- Fatigue after a full night’s sleep.
- Troubles keeping up with life due to need for sleep.
These symptoms also need to have been exhibited for at least two weeks without any resolution by the normal methods of catching up on your sleep. If you’ve tried to get more sleep in as well as tried to change your eating habits and your stress level, without relief, it might be time to go to a doctor.
There are other physical causes of excessive daytime sleepiness which might be causing your need to nap. Most of the time, these causes can be uncovered, then they can be addressed with therapy, medication, or surgery.
